After a four-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the Air Cargo Africa exhibition returned to Johannesburg’s Emperors Palace Convention Centre, and Aero Africa was proud to be among the leading exhibitors at this premier industry gathering.
Africa’s Air Cargo Community Reunites
The sixth edition of Air Cargo Africa brought together over 2,000 delegates and visitors from more than 50 countries, with 60+ exhibitors representing the entire air cargo business community – from airlines and airports to GSAs, freight forwarders, and technology providers. For three dynamic days, the continent’s air freight industry converged to exchange ideas, forge partnerships, and address the unique challenges facing African logistics.
A Special Moment for Aero Africa
This edition held particular significance for our team. As our CEO and Founder Christos Spyrou shared at the event: “Air Cargo Africa is the right place to discuss ideas and form partnerships with domestic and global air cargo players. This edition is very special, and we have brought all our team members from across the globe to network and explore ideas at this platform.”
Having our entire global team together in one place – from our Hong Kong origins to our African operations – reinforced our commitment to the continent and provided invaluable face-to-face time with clients, partners, and industry stakeholders we typically engage with remotely.
Addressing Africa’s Core Challenge
A key theme of our CEO’s remarks resonated throughout the event: “The cost of transportation is almost 70% of the total trading cost of doing commercial business in Africa, and the entire air cargo community needs to come together to simplify transport on the continent.”
This challenge sits at the heart of Aero Africa’s mission. Our neutral positioning, extensive network across 84+ African airports, and commitment to simplified logistics solutions directly address this fundamental barrier to African trade competitiveness.
The Power of Face-to-Face Connection
While digital communication has become increasingly sophisticated, nothing replaces the value of in-person connection. Air Cargo Africa 2023 provided the perfect platform to:
- Strengthen existing partnerships with airlines, forwarders, and handlers across our network
- Explore new collaboration opportunities with potential partners
- Gain firsthand market intelligence from across the continent
- Showcase our expanding capabilities and service offerings
- Learn from industry peers facing similar challenges and opportunities
Looking Ahead
The conversations, connections, and insights from air cargo Africa 2023 continue to inform our strategic decisions and operational improvements. The energy and optimism evident throughout the three-day event reinforced our conviction that Africa’s air cargo sector is poised for significant growth, and Aero Africa is positioned to be at the forefront of that expansion.

To everyone who visited our booth, attended our meetings, and engaged in conversations throughout the event – thank you. Your insights, challenges, and partnership opportunities help shape our service development and ensure we’re addressing the real needs of the African logistics community.
